long email— for the cerebral variety only --
of course the moment the cargo is over heated the consignees put a mafia claim for THERMAL destruction of cargo.
many consignees would rather pay for a PRE-WASH than have cargo destruction. this problem rose due to the change of IBC rules on 31st dec 2006.
the errant chief officer, solved the problem by CRIMINALLY fiddling around with temperature calibration screws.
if you take cold ballast interface to cool down palm oils –you get a INSULATED CHEESE LAYER on the side bulkheads and bottom —which will NOT come off. rather this white layer stops any more cooling.
the best way is to use the steam coils . a SS coil which can heat can also cool. you put steam it heats –you put cold water it cools.
of course there will soon be a cheese layer on the tube surface too. but this layer can be melted off by putting steam for 2 minutes , regularly.
if the chief officer is careful, such a scenario will never happen. but then sometimes a small tank adjacent to a HIGH HEAT LARGE TANK can get heated even if you don’t want it.
now I have to digress—
I wonder when our marine world will get some intelligence. the lack of intelligence is just revolting .
fools are ruled by fools.
so our ratguards fall off , our conrods break, we have a different fire triangle for boiler furnace and main engine crank case – this list goes on.
we have fresh water generation systems , which do NOT allow the master to slow down his engines. for if he slows down the engine heat reduces and then the fresh water generation falls.
so what is fresh water generation?
chief engineer channels the salt water via the main engine and gets it heated . he then puts this salt water in a vacuum chamber , and then it flashes it into vapor. this vapor is condensed and we drink this water merrily. by the time this FWG water gets condensed the SECOND TIME in the steam return lines , the chlorides are zilch.
yet we have chemical operators asking for DI WATER and DEMI WATER—with zilch understanding of what this means.
SO WHAT PREVENTS THIS MARINE WORLD FROM HAVING A STEAM PIPE CONNECTED JUST BEFORE THE VACUUM CHAMBER. WHY MAIN ENGINE HEAT AND JACKET COOLING TEMPERATURES? WHY NOT FREE STEAM FROM THE ECONOMISER TO HEAT THE SEA WATER ?
getting back—
with entire europe getting frozen, the GLOBAL WARMING propaganda party are still at it. – yes— the same party who warned us that mumbai will sink in another 20 years, and maldives will be wiped off the earth.
so that vested interests can collect carbon tax.
so that vested interests can make NOx disappear by punching their approved numbers on EXTRA costly kosher spare parts.
NO BODY UNDERSTANDS THE DANGERS OF FEEDING <0.1% AUTO GAS OIL INTO BOILERS WITHOUT COOLERS AND SPECIAL NOZZLES. ALL ACCIDENTS AND BOILER FURNACE POOFS AND FLASH BACKS ARE HUSHED UP.
we plod on—
by the way, when I came here all were complaining about RED WATER .
on japanese economy ships they DELIBERATELY fit poor grade fresh water lines, along with hard beds/ pillow, disgraceful green painted floor (even in master’s cabin) etc.
so as long as FWG water runs in the pipelines we get to drink clear water. by sometimes greedy charters want to make an extra dollar by carrying 40 tons more of low freight cargo for the loadlines , and ship is ARM TWISTED to take water from ashore at disport.
so sailors continue drinking RED WATER.
when such charterers visit my ship— I give them red water to drink—and I make sure they drink it— or NO business talks .
thanks and best regards

Nowadays you get lot of reverse osmosis purifiers in the market. Make sure they have a built in mineraliser or I would advise you not to buy it.
If you have understood the reverse osmosis theory, i wont have to do any more explaining.
There is something called osmotic shock.
If you drink RO water or even ionised water ( DI water or even distileld water ) , the absence of salt in it makes this movement occur VERY fast, as the body starts to try to reach equilibrium. The salt movement is a bit too fast and has so much force behind it that the cell walls basically explode from the shock, which of course kills the cells.
Kill too many of the 100 trillion you have -- you can get internal bleeding.
I have seen my Polish Chief Engineer actually buckle down from this.
See the video below.
On ships where you have fresh water generators from flash evaporation , it is desirable to fit a mineraliser ( Dolomite ).
When MLC 2006 kicks in, make sure you get it.
