ABANDON SHIP ONLY IF SINKING IS IMMINENT

1.
Abandon ship signal is ABANDON SHIP verbal order repeated thrice by Master
2.
Fix ships position
3.
Ensure DISTRESS signal is send out with all relevant information
4.
Notify company and DPA (if time permits )
5.
Establish contact with nearby ships as a follow up of DSC alert
6
Ascertain wind, weather, sea and prognosis
7
Check proximity of nearest shore
8
Prepare LB for launching
9
Ensure Life rafts are NOT tied to ship , HRU is strong point for making fast painter
10
Pack ships certificates, crew documents , ships logs and ships cash in waterproof casing

Place additional Fresh water, high calorie but low volume food and blankets in LB
12
Place Charts, GPS n battery, scientific calculators, sextant, parallel ruler, compass, pencils in LB

Ensure EPIRB, SART, GMDSS walkie talkies with Lithium battery n spare charged batteries, Aldis with battery, Ships bridge distress rockets, LTA , spare torches and batteries are placed in LB

Take a head count

Check if crew are dressed adequately with Life jackets

Make all crew drink as much water as possible with sea sickness tablets if sea is rough

Put adequate immersion suits, thermal jackets, splash suits, chemical gloves etc if weather is cold

Close all WT doors, skylights of ER
19
Stop all machinery
20
Launch BOTH life raft and life boats
21
If possible crew must board LB and LR without getting wet with sea water, by boarding with ladder or weather side
22
Get clear of vessel and gather all craft together, as per survival manual
23
Remain as near as possible of the GMDSS distress ships position
24
Post continuous lookouts
25
Start a LB log
26
Keep the morale high
